Become Part of Our Community-Driven Hosting Team

Family Promise’s shelter program is built on a strong partnership with interfaith congregations and community volunteer groups, working together to support local children and families experiencing homelessness. Our host sites offer more than just lodging and meals—they provide a safe, welcoming environment and a sense of belonging during a time of uncertainty.

Each day begins with a warm breakfast shared at a host site, where dedicated volunteers welcome our families with care and compassion. From there, families head to our Resource Center, where they access essential services and personalized case management designed to help them build a brighter, more stable future. In the evening, guests return to the host site, where volunteers provide a home-cooked dinner and meaningful companionship. The night is filled with homework, relaxation, and family time—creating the comforting rhythm of everyday life. Each day ends with families together, safe and united under one roof.

HOSTING

Local houses of worship or civic groups, which we call host sites, provide temporary overnight lodging in otherwise unused spaces within their buildings. A host site team of volunteers, along with support volunteers, may be involved in the following activities:

  • Cooking and/or hosting dinner

  • Sleeping overnight at the host site

  • Donating necessary supplies for the hosting week

  • Spending the evening with families – talking, tutoring kids, or playing games

  • Coordinating children’s crafts & activities

  • Setting up and breaking down of guest families’ rooms

MANAGEABLE COMMITMENT

  • Families stay overnight only, not 24 hours a day

  • Each host site serves families for just one week at a time, four to five times per year

  • A maximum of three families (up to 14 individuals total) are hosted at any given time

  • Family Promise is committed to creating a safe, respectful environment for both our guests and volunteers
