Mission & History

Family Promise of Greater Concord is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to helping children and families facing homelessness achieve stability and independence. Through a network of faith-based congregations, volunteers, and local organizations, we provide shelter, meals, case management, and essential resources to empower families on their journey toward lasting housing.

Our programs go beyond emergency shelter, offering diversion and prevention services to help families avoid homelessness, as well as stabilization support to ensure long-term success. With a commitment to keeping families together and treating every individual with dignity and respect, we work to break the cycle of poverty and create sustainable solutions for those in need.

At Family Promise of Greater Concord, we believe that every child deserves a safe place to call home—and that, together, we can make that a reality.

Our Mission

Family Promise prevents and ends homelessness for families with children and helps them achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.

History

2013 – Like many great ideas, ours started in a church basement. Clergy from local congregations gathered to discuss the growing challenges of family homelessness and housing insecurity in our community. They recognized a critical gap—there were no shelter options that allowed families to stay together. While researching solutions, they discovered that two other New Hampshire counties had launched Family Promise Affiliates. The model not only provided children and families with the support they needed to regain stability, but it also energized host congregations and offered a cost-effective approach for donors.

2015 – Inspired by this vision, Family Promise of Greater Concord, Inc. was founded as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the Family Promise national umbrella. With dedicated community support, we launched operations in the fall of 2015, creating a network of shelter, resources, and hope for families in need.

2020 – Recognizing the growing need for proactive solutions, we expanded our services to include a Diversion and Prevention Program. This initiative helps families avoid the trauma of homelessness by providing financial assistance, case management, and community resources to keep them housed. By addressing housing instability before it becomes a crisis, we have been able to serve even more families and strengthen our impact.

2022 – To better serve families in need, we moved to our current location, giving us more space and improving accessibility to essential resources. This move has allowed us to enhance our programming, provide a more stable environment for families, and further our mission of preventing and ending family homelessness in Greater Concord.

Family Promise is the nation’s leading organization working to prevent and end family homelessness. Across 43 states, more than 200 Family Promise Affiliates unite over 200,000 volunteers, faith communities, local organizations, and corporate partners to provide shelter, support, and long-term solutions for families facing housing insecurity.
